366 - Jim - Fake Rain

I wonder if anyone still looks at this blog to see if I post anymore... Anyways, I got Carol to let me take a photo of her hands with a light above and behind. I used a beauty dish to give a soft light, but also have the light fall off quickly. There was a Photoshop tutorial I watched and it inspired me to try it out. I had a blue monochromatic version of this, but liked the color version better. These Photoshop tutorials are awesome and I would really like to learn Photoshop better, so I will be watching more of them and maybe you will see some results here.

269/365 - Jim - Pushing Daisies

I have seen several photos like this and wanted to try one. The daisies in my landscaping just started blooming last week, so I went out and cut one off. Then asked my wife if she would model for me. She said no... But then she found out it was only her hand, so she agreed. I took the photo on a white backdrop and then used Photoshop to edit it out and put an old sky photo in the background. The white version looked ok, but the sky version is more interesting.

This is another one of those late night photos where I just come up with something before the strike of midnight. For some reason when I saw some chalk laying around, I thought chalk to the hand. So I put it together and got my photo today...

Smochko sent me an image like this and wanted me to reproduce it. Since eye didn't have anything better to photograph tonight, eye gave it a try. Turned out to be very easy, so thanks Matt for the eyedea :)

183/365 - Jim - The Old One Two

I have seen photos like this on flickr and stock photography pages, and I wanted to try it. Since I have a demo of Photoshop, I might as well use it. The hardest part of this was blending the finger into the wrist. Other than that it was pretty simple. This photo also officially takes me from the first half of fotoeveryday to the second half, which means I'm half way done now. Woohoo! It's hard to believe I have been able to keep up with it this long and makes me realize how fast time has flown by. Hopefully the second half will become easier and I become more creative.

133/365 - Jim - Fringe Hand

This is the second Fringe photo I have done. The first one was of an apple. This one is copied from this photo. To repeat myself, it's a great show and I recommend it. Now to tell you how I did it. I used a piece of Plexiglas in front of a black background. I put baby powder on my hand and made my print with an extra space between my pinky and ring finger, then added another ring finger in between. I used a flash from behind the plexi with a grid spot on it so the light did not leak onto the background. After I got the shot I processed it in Lightroom and gave it a cool blue look. Then in Paint Shop Pro I added the yellow lights. And yes, I have a crooked pinky...

105/365 - Jim - Shadow

Theme is hand print. For this photo I stood behind my Translum background with a flash behind me. I originally wanted to just get my hand in the shot, but found this one interesting. It could be a scary movie poster as creepy as it looks. You could probably really scare someone by printing this out and taping it to a window. I also did some shadow puppets, so maybe I'll make that a theme someday.

Theme is sign. I thought I would just go outside and take a photo of a road sign, but it got dark too quickly. So I had to think of something else. My wife knows the alphabet in sign language and uses it to tell me who she is talking to on the phone. Only problem is, I can't read sign language.

017/365 - Jim - Negative Space Hand

Theme is hand. I started out just taking a picture of my hand. To add a little drama I put my hand in water until it wrinkled. It wasn't as interesting as I thought it might be so I kept thinking. I saw my son's Step 2 Easel sitting there and tried this out to see what it would look like. It turned out to be interesting enough to post.
