We took a walk around the block today and put the kids in the Radio Flyer wagon. Halfway through the walk, we switched and I pulled the wagon. Carol carried my camera and I told her to take some pictures. I figured she would say no, but she actually took some photos. I set it up so all she had to do was hit the shutter. When I loaded the pictures on the computer, I was surprised to find this one. She framed this one nicely and I'm not sure she really meant to. See Carol, maybe you could get into photography...

No, OBX does not stand for obnoxious. It stands for the Outer Banks in North Carolina. My uncle Tim was there on vacation and got this awesome shot. Here is his description of it:

When we were at the Outer Banks NC this year I got up early to shoot the sunrise over the water. I set the camera on a tripod and would snap a picture every minute as the sun rose. As this bird flew by I couldn't resist snapping a photo.

This was taken with my first DSLR camera that I sold to Shawn when I upgraded to the D300. It is pretty difficult to take fireworks photos while hand holding the camera, let alone while hand holding on a boat, but he did a pretty good job of it. Here is his poetic description of the night he took this photo. Thanks for the guest post, Shawn.

The green and red navigation lights of all of the boats sway and reflect off of the Allegheny river. If you could look to the left you would see all of the onlookers lined up against the railings of the convention center. If you could feel the air around you it would remind you of laughter, smiling, good times, and hope. Awe speaks into the air with booms and flashes. The river current never stops its incessant tugging at the anchor lines as we lose ourselves in the flow of the Allegheny. The bridges pull like arms holding us in an embrace of the city of Pittsburgh. My hand holds that of one so close to me and we both squeeze all the more tightly. Our souls twist together on this night when the sky has become so bright in the darkness. Dreams fill the mind as we worry about naught and stare at the overhead spectacle with the bright eyes of children.

Courtney said this was the only plant that she got for her new house. Her mother bought it for her at Lowe's while we were out visiting. I had intended on taking out the little money plant photo that I took, but it started growing and producing twenties. I wish... Really I just forgot it.

Tyler just got a Nikon D200 so I'm sure he was excited to get out and shoot some stuff. I like photos like this. There are several times that I will pass old tractors along the road and take photos of them with my head. Then I never seem to go back and use a real camera. Maybe I should go out in search of one today. We will see what happens. Nice photo Tyler, keep them coming.

My friend Ryan sent me this photo without any editing done to it and suggested darkening the water and lightening the sky. I took it a step further and added some contrast and fixed parts of the water. Then cropped it down to a panorama and added white borders and text. I thought it looked like something that would be hung in a corporate office building. Nice shot Ryan and I hope you enjoyed your trip.

Tyler sent me this photo a while back and I intended on doing something that would match it, but it seemed like something came up every day or I forgot. But I finally took a flower shot as well. Maybe Tyler can shed more light on this photo. I like how sharp the flowers are and how soft the background is. It seems I always have trouble balancing the two when I take flower shots.

Tyler was my neighbor and I more recently found out he is way into photography. He took this photo at Brown's Country Kitchen in Portersville, PA. It's an old 1950 tour bus. He increased the vibrance to give it a cool vintage look. Nice photo and thanks for posting!

Kyle is currently a senior at Warner University majoring in Church Ministry and minoring in Communications (photography and video). I've never met Kyle, but he was directed to my site by my dad. My dad suggested he get in touch and send me some of his work. Here is some of what Kyle emailed me:

When it comes to photography I am a motion-blur fanatic. It is just my thing. I did not have a tripod on me that night, so having the rides blur while everything else stay focused was hard. Just had to hold my breath!

My uncle Tim got this camera for Christmas. He strapped it to a tree along a heavily traveled trail and checked on it a week later to find this photo. He says:

It looks like a Mama and two little ones. The other deer looks like a buck that already shed his horns. It looks like they had a family portrait taken.

This was taken by my sister-in-law Courtney. She prides herself in her ability to take blurry photos. In this picture is my father-in-law, Bill, at the AFC Championship game. Courtney tells me this was right after the Polamalu interception. Very understandable that the image would be blurry with all the jumping around and excitement. Go Steelers!

My uncle Tim is the guest blogger today. He asked me for some advice on photographing in a gymnasium. I told him about setting the white balance for the fluorescent lights and to shoot in Shutter priority. Also how to use the ISO if the pictures are too dark. He took my advice and got a quality shot. Here is some info he emailed me about the photo. Jessica is my cousin if you can't figure that out...

Thanks to the advise I received from a great photographer I know, the picture turned out great. I had no idea you could take such a nice photo inside a gymnasium without a flash. Jessica is the red head holding the girl up on the right. Jessica's team took third place in the competition. The Nikon D60 with the 18-200mm lens took first place.

My guest blogger today is my sister. She sent me the picture, but didn't really give me a good description, so I'll just paste part of the email.

Here is plant. I tried taking pictures of a bamboo plant which is my favorite...but didn't go well. My camera sucks. 8. something pixels. Oh, well, it was fun. This was off my wall in the hall way. I used my lamp in my living room that has an umbrella type outside around it to try to make it look good....ha.

Jameson is my guest blogger today. He got a vtech camera for Christmas from my sister. He has a tendency to turn on the camera and take shots straight down because he is just looking in the LCD for something. This was taken in his room of a play road mat on his floor. Not bad for a 2 year old and a lousy camera :)

Today I have a guest entry. My dad came to watch my son and took this picture for the theme tricolor. Here are his comments about the photo:

The theme of tricolor really had me thinking and that is always dangerous for me and for those around me. I thought briefly about an American Flag picture since this is Veterans Day but my mind wondered away from that spot and I started thinking ,"What if?" What if we could draw using a pen with the same three colors found in most color printers. I couldn't think of a better subject than Jameson so here is my representation of "What if?"
